Camping tips can make the difference between
creating fun memories for your family, or ones you'll want to
forget. And planning your trip ahead of time is key to
surviving this kind of adventure.
If your children are under three years old, things can get
difficult, especially on the parents because they are supporting
the extra load. Hiking and canoeing for example, are
things you can't really do with children this small. But
there are plenty of fun activities that you can still do
together.
You can find out ahead of time if the campground you are
staying in offers activities for children, or if there is a
nearby facility that does. This will save you a lot of time when
you get arrive.
You may want to make a reservation for some activities and
equipment in advance such as boats, horseback riding, fishing
licenses or other activities ahead of time. One thing is
for sure, your kids will want to hit the ground running when
they arrive at the campsite. You, on the other hand, may
be tired from driving.
Find out what towns are close to your campground so you can
plan activities for the young ones if they get rambunctious.
A pizza parlor maybe, or a game-stop. The area chamber of
commerce is a good place to ask about this, as well as the local
library and park district.
Your family may find the small town nearby has a rich history
that your family might have fun discovering. A guided tour
for families might be available, or an interesting museum could
show you and your family some fascinating history. While
you're out, you can get the kids fed which always helps to calm
them down.
Children enjoy reading books, watching a DVD or listening to
music as you are traveling. Keep that in mind when you're
packing and make sure they have something available in the car.
Play car games that everyone likes to avoid fights while you're
driving down the road.
Another good idea, is to take bathroom breaks often on the
road to getting to your camping trip. Let the children
get up and walk around a bit, stretching their legs, and give
everyone a chance to refresh themselves.
Do not forget that adults need to take a break every once in
a while too. Each parent might need some alone time to get
their nerves together. Plan for it.
